Our
Story
The timeless building resting at the inlet of Seal Cove has been a pillar of the community on Grand Manan for over a century. Opened in 1885 by the Mclaughlin brothers as a hardware and general store. In the hands of four generations of Mclaughlins, the building has since filled many uses. The Village post office, a local watering hole, a hub of turisme, and a place for locals to get a delicious home cooked meal. Sadly, since 2017, the building has sat empty. The beds made up for the next guests to arrive. But now, the lights have been on once again as new life stirs in the building on the wharf.
At its core, it has always been a family business. And the Martin’s intend to keep that spirit alive. Under the new identity of Tides Inn and Social, the family and friends reopening this beautiful establishment want to pay homage to the island's roots while bringing a fresh youthful spirit to the table. They dream of creating a space for the community. Somewhere that all feel welcome. A space for people to come together over good music and even better food.
